Let me start with hiking isn’t easy. Especially carrying a 9kg camera pack up and down mountains. But oh is it rewarding.
I see all the “insta-ration” with people standing on that mountain peak. Looking out to the most incredible view. I get totally overwhelmed when I realise there is no way I would make it, to the top. You see, I work in an office job, where I find myself at my desk for hours on end. Then days and weeks go by and I realise I’ve not been out exploring in months.
We need to reverse the effects of sitting, by getting out exploring.
We need to start a movement to #sitlessexploremore
Over half of the average persons day is spent sitting. Doing things like working at a desk, watching tv or driving.
I know from my experience with way too much sitting. I have bad posture, a sore neck + back, tight hip flexors + hips, my quads ache and my arse gets sore… not to mention getting wider. Probably from a combination of sitting and expending less calories from my sedentary lifestyle.
Work takes over. We work long hours and want to rest when we get home and recover for the week ahead on the weekends. I want to challenge that.
Over the next month, I want to challenge everyone. Myself included to #sitlessexploremore
Instead of coming home and sitting on the lounge, take a 20-30 min walk each afternoon, (or morning if you prefer) Get some blood into those muscles. Raise your heart rate and get some fresh air.
Getting outside is good for your mind and body.
At the start of your week, I want you to research some places you can explore on your day off. Pick a hiking or walking trail or a beach or lookout you could explore.
Each week, I want you to take a photo and post to instagram or Facebook with the hash tag #sitlessexploremore so we can see what adventures you get up too your day off.
