The track in…
A short drive in off the Gwydir Highway you will find this riverside oasis. Take the Cangai Bridge Road off the Highway. You will drive along a dirt track for approximately 2kms before crossing the gorgeous old low level wooden plank bridge, across the Mann River. This little river system can have some serious flow going on! Keep an eye on the weather and rain. If the water rises too high you may not get in/out due to the low level bridge.
There are heaps of little camping spots along the river or near the little stream behind the river. There are no facilities at this free camp so you will need to be self sufficient. Please keep the area beautiful and take all rubbish and toilet paper with you.
You may get a visit from the local cows that roam the land. Unfortunately we didn’t when we camped there because we arrived late and left early but there was definitely loads of evidence they were around…
Dogs are allowed, but as usual please be mindful of other campers and their dogs. To read more on camping with dogs click here.
Camp Fires are allowed – but make sure you check the local rules and restrictions prior to lighting a fire. If possible, use one of the older fire pits that are already around the area.
There was no Telstra phone service when we visited here – which of course was heaven!
Things to do…
- Kayaking or tubing down the river – be careful of the fast moving water around the rocks
- Perfect spot to relax and have a picnic
- Explore the nearby National Parks
- Explore the area for some great photo opportunities (of course!)
A stunning free campground along the Mann River. A place of tranquility and relaxation where you can switch off and get back to nature.
